Emergency responders were called to Idalou in the western edge of town along U.S. Highway 62/82 at about 10:49 a.m. for a motorcycle accident.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the accident was fatal.
DPS said the driver of the black motorcycle (see the attached image) was making a turn into a gas station. DPS said the driver of the red motorcycle did not notice the black bike and rear-ended it.
The driver of the red motorcycle later died at University Medical Center, according to DPS. He was identified by DPS as Donald Leroy Breon, 52, of Maryland.
“No Helmets were worn,” DPS said.
DPS said both motorcycles were on a cross country group traveling back to Maryland.
Breon’s employer issued the following statement:
Don Breon was the food/nutrition and environmental services director at Jefferson Medical Center. We just learned about the accident this afternoon. It certainly comes as a shock to all of us at WVU Medicine University Healthcare who worked with Don. We are deeply sadden by this news and our prayers go out to his family. He will be missed.
