It’s been more than 24 hours since the train collision near Panhandle and now Trooper Dan Busing with DPS says it’s now a recovery effort.
Busing said the families of the BNSF employees involved in the collision have been notified.
The employee who was sent to the hospital is still in stable condition, the person’s injuries are non-life threatening.
Busing says they’ve detached a lot of cars from the wreckage and the westbound train is disconnected.
They’re currently working towards the impact area; he says there were more problems in the eastbound train.
Officials have been on site since yesterday trying to tear down the wreckage but he says there was a small delay because of the rain Tuesday night.
Busing tells us there’s no estimate on when the tracks will reopen, but he says it could take days.
There are no more flames on the site, it’s still smoldering, and Busing says that’s why the tearing down process is going slowly.
