The Texas Department of Public Safety helped Lubbock Police search for a missing Lubbock woman on Thursday.
Police confirmed that a DPS helicopter took two LPD officers up for look at some areas near 34th Street and Milwaukee Avenue. The helicopter also was seen flying over 81st Street and Cedar Avenue.
Police said Linda Gail Wilhite, 67, was discovered missing last week and she was considered to be in immediate danger.
Last week police searched her home in the 6100 block of 38th Street – not far from 34th and Milwaukee.
At the time LPD said, “Officers located a significant amount of blood in one of the bedrooms.”
On Thursday Lieutenant John Hayes said LPD was very grateful to DPS for the use of the helicopter. He said it not only prevents LPD from getting vehicles stuck in areas of tough terrain, it’s also much faster than searching on foot.
As for the specific locations, Hayes said LPD was following leads from cell phone activity.
“There was some cell phone activity of the people who were involved,” Hayes said. But a cell phone tower only narrows a location down to within 2,000 meters or 5,000 meters depending on the tower, he said.
Anyone with information about Wilhite’s disappearance or current location is asked to call Crime Line at 806-741-1000.
