DPS, Local Authorities Schedule No Refusal Weekend for November 4-6

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), along with the Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock Sheriff’s Office and the Lubbock District Attorney’s Office, will enforce a “no refusal” weekend Nov. 4 – 6 in an effort to reduce DWI-related traffic crashes.

DPS Troopers, local officers and deputies will coordinate their efforts and increase patrols in and around Lubbock. During the no refusal period, motorists arrested for driving while intoxicated and served with a search warrant will be required to submit to evidentiary blood draws.

In 2015, there were 349 alcohol-related crashes in Lubbock County that resulted in 15 deaths, 47 serious injuries and 93 minor injuries. Eight of those deaths occurred inside Lubbock city limits.

Other organizations also assisting with the operation include STAR ER and Citibus.
