The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a brief update Thursday concerning the deaths of two children in Lynn County.

Up until Thursday, no names had been released officially, but the mother of the children provided names and a few details to EverythingLubbock.com at the time.

The DPS statement said, “The Texas Rangers are still investigating the deaths of a father and two children discovered in Lynn County on July15, 2016. The father Jeremy Conteras, 37, son Garett Conteras, 6, and daughter Avery Conteras, 23 months, all of Lubbock, were discovered in a vehicle on County Road Q, just west of US 87 near the road side park.”

Questions to DPS had repeatedly gone unanswered, so EverythingLubbock.com made an open records request on August 1. That request is still pending.

The mother of the children, Cybil Contreras, said it was a murder/suicide.  The Texas Rangers have so far neither confirmed nor denied that claim.

Court records indicated an ongoing divorce case between Cybil and Jeremy Contreras.
