LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Department of Public Safety said a crash at U.S. Highway 84 at Farm to Market Road 2641 took the life of Doris Phillips, 74. She was the passenger in a car driven by Bryan Phillips, 74, of Shallowater. Mr. Phillips suffered critical injuries according to DPS.

Their car crashed with one driven by Shonda McCoy, 38 of Shallowater at about 6:00 pm Thursday. She and a 1-year-old girl suffered injuries that DPS said were not life-threatening.  However, according to University Medical Center McCoy was in critical condition Friday morning.

DPS said that McCoy failed to yield the right of way at the intersection. Both cars were Kias.

DPS said alcohol was not confirmed, but it was a possible factor that was under investigation.

*Note: DPS originally said McCoy was 48 and the little girl was 2. DPS updated the information to say McCaoy is 38 and girl is 1.
