The Texas Department of Public Safety seized more than seven pounds of cocaine and more than five pounds of methamphetamine Sunday after a traffic stop in Carson County.

At 2:08 a.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2015 Honda Civic traveling east on I-40 near Groom, for a traffic violation.

A DPS canine unit was called to the scene and alerted on the vehicle. The trooper then discovered cellophane-wrapped packages of meth and cocaine inside the vehicle. The methamphetamine was worth an estimated $468,000 and the cocaine was worth an estimated $432,000.

The driver, Jorge Hernandez, 31, of Phoenix, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Hernandez was booked into the Carson County Jail.

DPS said the drugs were from Mesa, Arizona and headed to Birmingham, Alabama.
