On March 10, 2016, at approximately 5 p.m., Texas Rangers were called to investigate an officer involved shooting in Odessa, Texas. The subject involved was Jason Meador, 50, of Odessa.

According to the preliminary investigation, officers responded to the 1200 block of Douglas Avenue  after a 911 call. Officers with Odessa Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service attempted to negotiate with Meador, who was threating to harm himself. According to officer statements, he eventually brandished a handgun in the direction of police and was shot by law enforcement officers.

Meador was transported to Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. This is an ongoing investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
