The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized over $1.24 million in illegal drugs Tuesday.
At approximately 4:43 p.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2016 Jeep Cherokee for a traffic violation on IH-40 near Conway, in Carson County. During the traffic stop, the trooper conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered several plastic wrapped packages of heroin inside luggage. The heroin weighed almost 10 pounds.
The occupants of the Jeep were identified as Cristina Gomez, 23, and Ignacio Castro, 33, both of Phoenix, Ariz. Gomez and Castro were arrested, booked into the Carson County jail and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Phoenix, Ariz., to Charleston, Ill.
