DPS Trooper Seizes over $554,000 in Marijuana

AMARILLO, TX (PRESS RELEASE) — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Thursday on IH-40, yielding over 91 pounds of marijuana valued at over $554,000.

At approximately 5:08 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Chrysler 200 traveling eastbound on IH-40, for a traffic violation, near Bushland in Potter County.

The occupants of the Chrysler were identified as Christopher Rodriguez, 25, of Lockhart, Texas, and Simon Castillo Jr., 24, of Kyle, Texas. 

During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 81 vacuum sealed bags of marijuana inside duffle bags.


Rodriguez and Castillo were placed under arrest for possession and delivery of marijuana over 50 pounds but less than 2000 pounds, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Potter County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from California to Austin.
