The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Sunday on U.S. 77, yielding over seventeen pounds of cocaine valued at over $1 million.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a grey Kia Sorento traveling northbound on U.S. 77, for a traffic violation, south of Kingsville in Kleberg County.

The driver was identified as David Strong, 62, of Brownsville. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered eight bundles of cocaine weighing 17.6 pounds, inside a suitcase.

Strong was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Kleberg County Jail.
