Dr. Katharine Hayhoe will deliver the keynote address at Lubbock Christian University’s 2016 Scholars Colloquium, Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in the W.R. Collier Auditorium in the Margaret Talkington Nursing Center for Nursing Education.

Hayhoe is director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University and part of the Department of Interior’s South-Central Climate Science Center.

Her work has been featured on the documentary series “Years of Living Dangerously” and “The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers,” and in articles appearing in On Earth, Grist, the L.A. Times, Climate Progress, and others.

In 2012, she was named one of Christianity Today’s 50 Women to Watch. In 2015, Hayhoe was named as one of the Huffington Post’s 20 Climate Champions.

She is an evangelical Christian who’s an international leader on climate research and whose views have not always agreed with political conservatives.

“She is a most delicate speaker to bring on campus,” said Dr. Stacy Patty, director of LCU’s Honors Program and professor of religion. “But colleges and universities are good places for discussion on ideas.”

Beyond the keynote address, there will be more than 60 presentations during the Colloquium, a combination of seniors doing capstone projects and others doing class projects. Faculty will also make research presentations.

All presentations will be open to the public.
