Monday morning, as kids made their way back to school for the start of a new year, the Miller Elementary principal greeted kids outside school.
This may sound typical, but he added some fun for the fist day, by way of an octopus costume.
“We want to take our safety and security procedures seriously, but at the same time we do want to have some fun with that, so I broke out one of my first day costumes,” Principal Kevin Booe said. “One, to stick out so people start to get aware of some of the traditions that are fun, but also safety things we have to do.”
Booe said it’s something he does each year on the first day of school.
He also makes sure he’s outside helping kids get inside safely each and every day.
“Whether it’s the first day of school like or the last day, whether it’s 20 degrees outside or 100, we’ve got to do everything we can do, not rest on our laurels, to make sure our children feel safe and all of our procedures are being thoroughly implemented,” he said.
