Last night, Friday, July 8, 2016 at approximately 9:27 p.m. patrol officers responded to a report of a crash with injuries in the 3200 block of Ave Q. A 2002 Honda Civic and a 2003 Chevy Tahoe were southbound in the 3200 block of Ave Q.
The Tahoe was in the center turn lane and the Civic was in the lane next to the center lane. A 2007 Ford Five Hundred was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes and collided head on with Honda Civic. The collision caused the both vehicles to move into the center turn lane where the Tahoe collided with both the Ford and the Honda.
The driver of the Honda Civic, Jose Antonio Zarate – 37, died at the scene. The driver of the Ford Five Hundred suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to UMC by EMS. Only one minor injury was reported in the Chevy Tahoe.
The Lubbock Police Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene and is investigating the crash.
