The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a 2 vehicle crash Saturday on US-385 in Hartley County, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 11:47 a.m., Juan Rodriguez, 36, of Amarillo was driving a 2005 Ford F-350 pickup truck southeast on US-385, approximately seven miles southeast of Hartley. Wendy Beltran, 19, of Dumas, was driving a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder SUV southeast on US-385 in front of Rodriguez. Rodriguez traveled into the left lane to legally pass Beltran. As Rodriguez attempted to pass, Beltan failed to signal her intention to turn and turned left towards a private drive. Rodriguez was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the driver side door of Beltran’s  Nissan Pathfinder.

Beltran was pronounced dead on scene by Hartley County Justice of the Peace, Beth Moore.

Rodriguez and passengers, identified as 25-year-old Joshua Loehr and 44-year-old Martin Martinez, also of Amarillo, were treated and released on scene by EMS.

All drivers and passengers involved were wearing their seat belts.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
