The numbers are up in Lubbock County for both voter registration and early voting.

The Office of Elections reports,  as of 5:30 Friday afternoon, 69,872 people had voted in Lubbock County. That beats the early voting numbers for the last three elections: 2004, 2008 and 2012.

Lubbock County Elections Administrator Dorothy Kennedy said she has seen more early voting and mail in ballots during this election.

More than 166,000 people registered to vote in Lubbock County. That is more than half the population listed at 299,453 in the latest census information.

“I think we are seeing both,” Kennedy said. “We saw a lot of people that  not only were turning 18 and first time voters, but we actually saw a huge trend of people that had been out of the system 30, 40 years.”

She called it a smart move to early vote, rather than wait in long lines during Election Day.

If you did not vote early, there are 38 voting locations in Lubbock and the polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm. Also, you can text 75044 with your zip code for a list of the three closest locations to you.
