Members of the Tyler community say they have seen a man riding on his bike wearing a t-shirt that says “Deport LGBT.”  In response, people gathered Sunday morning at Bergfeld Park in support of the LGBT community.

“We’re here with the message of deporting hate, of sending hate elsewhere!” says Deport Hate event coordinator Hannah Morris. “Preferably out of the planet.”

“What can we do to show people that that’s not the only opinion here in Tyler?” says event coordinator Rachel Joseph.  “We come together.”

Members of the LGBT community, as well as allies of it came out to show their support.

“I grew up here, from when i was a baby, and i think that the community has definitely evolved over the last 30 something years and it’s just going to continue to increase,” says East Texan Courtney Watson.

Many families turned out and walked through the Azalea District.

Morris says as the event gained traction online, support from the community followed.

“I did get a phone call from City of Tyler and they were wonderful, and fabulous and they said we want it to be a positive experience for everybody, full of support,” says Morris.

The walk ended at Bergfeld Park for a picnic amongst family and friends.

“We just want to spread love and celebrate each other, and that’s all you can do,” says Joseph.
