One person was killed and another was injured following a two vehicle accident in Reeves County early Wednesday morning.

According to the DPS, the accident occurred on Ranch-to-Market Road 652 approximately 3 miles west of Orla.

Authorities said a 2006 Peterbilt semi-truck, pulling a tanker trailer with crude oil eastbound on RM 652. The driver fell asleep and drifted into the westbound lane in front of a 2014 Mack tractor trailer semi-truck, pulling a tank with water. The driver of the Mack semi-truck attempted to take evasive action but both semi-trucks collided.

Charlie Hardy, 49, of El Paso was killed in the accident. Hardy was the driver of the Peterbilt semi-truck.

The driver of the Mack semi-truck, identified as Urquiola Antonio Gusto, 50, of Hobbs, New Mexico, suffered non-incapaciting injuries. He was transported was transported to Reeves County Hospital  where he was treated and then released.
