The City of Plainview and surrounding agencies will be participating in a large-scale emergency management exercise on Tuesday, September 13th during the day. This exercise is designed to test and improve the community’s overall preparedness for an emergency event.
The simulated event taking place next week will be a natural disaster (tornado). Staff and volunteers participating in the event will be responding as if this were an actual disaster. The incident is not real; however the response activities during the fictional exercise will be handled in a manner that is realistic as possible.
Panhandle Regional Advisory Council, Covenant Hospital, Plainview Fire and EMS, Plainview Police, several EMS departments and hospitals from the South Plains region will be in Plainview participating in the exercise. Two of the main staging areas will be Ollie Liner Center and South Plains College. For your safety, and in order to complete the exercise in a realistic environment, the exercise staging areas will not be open to the public.
If you are over the age of 18 and in good physical health, and would like to participate in the training exercise as a volunteer, please contact Captain Derrick McPherson at 806-296-1185 or dmcpherson@plainviewtx.org. Captain McPherson is also available for any general questions related to this emergency management exercise.
