Opening in Lubbock movie theaters this weekend: Tomorrowland. George Clooney stars in this Disney sci-fi/fantasy feature. He’s a jaded genius, who’s life turns upside down thanks to a curious, optimistic teen girl. They find themselves thrust into an adventure, full of danger, to a place, somewhere in space-time, so they can save the future. Just longer than two hours and rated PG, you can take the family to either Cinemark location.

If you’re into something darker, don’t miss the remake of Poltergeist this weekend. A family moves into a new home, built on top of a cemetery. This does not make the souls there very happy, and they exact revenge by holding the youngest daughter captive.  They family has to go through incredible lengths, and horrific terror, to save her. Just longer than an hour-and-a-half, you can catch the PG-13 thriller though your fingers at Tinseltown, Premiere, or Alamo.

And the Cactus Theater presents Elephant Man for the next two Tuesday nights. The classic play is based on the life of Joseph Merrick, who suffers from extreme deformity. A talented cast brings this Victorian, serious drama to life at the theater in the Depot District at 7:30, and tickets are $20 each.
