Opening in Lubbock movies theaters this weekend: San Andreas. Dwayne Johnson starts in this story of “the big one” hitting California. He’s a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot, and he’s on a mission with his estranged wife to save their daughter. But “the big one” is just a warning shot from Mother Earth, and things get much worse. Rated PG-13, you can feel the effects at Tinseltown, the Alamo, Stars and Stripes, and Premiere in IMAX.

If you prefer Hawaii and a love story, check out Aloha. Emma Stone is a young Air Force pilot, and Bradley Cooper is a military contractor. They have to team up on a project that could mean redemption for him, and it could mean love for her. But he has an ex on the big island, and things get complicated. Alec Baldwin, Bill Murray and several others in the talented cast will make you laugh, and maybe even cry. It’s a great PG-13 date night at Movies 16 or out at the Alamo.

And it’s the final performance of The Elephant Man at the Cactus Theater, Tuesday night. The classic play is based on the life of Joseph Merrick, who suffers from extreme deformity. A talented cast brings this Victorian, serious drama to life at the theater in the Depot District at 7:30, and tickets are $20 each.

That’s a look at what’s happening in the Hub City!
