According to the Facebook page for the Cottle-King Times, former Paducah High School Principal and basketball coach Jay Cantrell pleaded guilty Thursday to three counts of indecency with a child and one count of sexual assault of a child.
The Cottle-King Times said, “According to the terms of the plea, Cantrell will serve 15 years ….”
Technically he will serve four 15-year prison sentences, but he will serve them all at the same time. Sentencing will be formally pronounced on June.
Cantrell has ties to Brownfield as both a former high school player and coach. He was arrested in Terry County instead of Cottle County in January of 2014. He was terminated by the Puducah ISD shortly after his arrest.
Cantrell was the Brownfield basketball coach from 2004 to 2009.
Prior to the allegations, Cantrell had been celebrated statewide for his coaching success – including a proclamation by the Texas Senate in 2011.
