The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will hold the Region I meeting on Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Mac Davis Lane. Approximately 900 Region I members and advisors are expected to attend.

FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12. The organization is formerly known as Future Homemakers of America and was founded in 1945.

The meeting is designed to provide students with the opportunity to participate in competitive events that include STAR events, proficiency events and Family and Consumer Science Assessments. Students will attend leadership tracks, run for office and be recognized for their FCCLA accomplishments for the year. Ryan Moran, a youth motivational speaker, will be a guest speaker at the event.

“Our mission is to promote personal growth and leadership through Family and Consumer Science education,” Madison Atwood, vice president of membership and public relations for FCCLA, said. “Participants leave the meetings focused on skills that will prepare them for life, such as character development, creative and critical thinking interpersonal communication, practical knowledge and career preparation.”

The Region I meeting will include three leadership workshops and special sessions as time and space allow. The schedule of events is as listed below for Friday, Feb. 26:
·         General registration – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
·         Competitive events – begin at 10:30 a.m.
·         FCSA testing – 9 to 11 a.m. for pre-registered participants and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for on-site registered participants
·         Leadership Workshop – from 1 to 1:45 p.m., 2 to 2:45 p.m. and 3 to 3:45 p.m.
·         House of Delegates – seating begins at 1 p.m., event starts at 1:30 p.m.
·         First General Session – 7 to 9 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 27:
·         General Session – 9 to 11:30 a.m.

The event is open to the public. Registration for the event is $23, and tickets can be purchased during the meeting at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
