On Tuesday, missing Smyer woman Maegan Hembree turned 34 years old. Her family celebrated with a birthday party at their home.

“These are sad things,” Maegan’s father Jerry Hembree said. “This is a sad situation not being able to be here and to celebrate, celebrate her birthday and her being part of the family. And bringing life to the family like she did.”

Maegan went missing in February 2013. She was last seen in Smyer driving a red, 2-door Saturn. Maegan’s car was found a few days later in Lubbock.

Maegan was last seen with Michael Todd Ramsey. He is the only subject named by investigators as a person of interest in the case.

He was arrested by Lubbock police in 2013 on unrelated charges. He was arrested again in October 2015 in Van Zandt County on unrelated charges. Hembree said he knows right now the cases are not connected but he has gone down to Canton to introduce himself to investigators and the district attorney. He said Van Zandt authorities have worked well with him and Lubbock investigators.

“He has chose not to speak concerning Maegan in Van Zandt county,” Hembree said. “And we just hope Van Zandt County just lowers the boom on him to the point that negotiations are necessary. That he would talk concerning Maegan, because they know that he is responsible and they know that he needs to deal with Maegan in Lubbock county.”

Hembree said he and his family have hope Maegan will come home one day,  but they have come to terms with the fact that Maegan may not come home alive.

“I think for the most part we have,” Hembree said. “But you know, it ain’t over until it is over.  And it isn’t over until we get some kind of closure one way or another. We hope that she is brought home and we know God is going to help us with that. We can only leave it in the hands of the Lord because we are powerless concerning these things. And you now we are a family of faith.  We believe in God and trust in God that he is going to bring things to light. “

Hembree said Ramsey is due in court in September.
