Gabriel Salazar, 32, was found dead in the parking lot of the Carriage Inn and Suites in southeast Lubbock Sunday.

Salazar’s aunt, Patricia Salazar, said her nephew was a kindhearted person.

“It’s kind of hard, my nephew loved everybody. He’d give you anything in the world; if he had his last dollar he’d give it to you. He was a wonderful nephew that I knew.”

Police are continuing to look for reasons why Salazar’s nephew was left to die.

So far, two suspects have been arrested in connection to the case. Jake Johnson, 27, is facing charges for murder and tampering with evidence, and Geneva Leal, 26, is charged with tampering with evidence.

For Gabriel Salazar’s aunt, the loss of her nephew was devastating.

“I ask that y’all pray for us, what we’re going through is not easy, what that man did to him, he didn’t have to do that,” Salazar said, “He was fighting for his life but he didn’t make it.”

Salazar had a final word for her nephew.

“I’m just going to miss him, I’m going to miss him a lot.”
