Ivan Williams, the father of murdered 17-year-old Alize Henderson, and his family are starting a yearly scholarship called ‘The Alize Memorial Scholarship’ for a student at the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders.

“We thought it would be good for us as a family for us to give us a little hope to help someone else like Alize would have done,” Williams said. “She was always a good helper and she was always there. That was her school and she loved it.”

Williams said the $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior at Talkington who’s been accepted to a college.

He said it’s important to start the scholarship this year, because this would’ve been Alize’s graduating class, and he intends to keep the scholarship fund going every year.

Williams said Talkington is involved with the process and will help his family select candidates.

He said they started a Go Fund Me to get the scholarship going and he knows Alize would be proud.

“She’s up there smiling because this is her school that she loved,” Williams said. “She loved Talkington and we feel that this is a way for her to always be a part of Talkington.”
