Family of Slain Abilene Correctional Officer Marianne Johnson Speaks Out

The grieving family of slain correctional officer Marianne Johnson is demanding answers from the State of Texas.

“This is a great, great loss to this family,” says Michael Johnson, Marianne’s brother-in-law.

It’s been four days since correctional officer, Marianne Johnson was killed by a male inmate at the Robertson Prison Unit.

Monday afternoon, the tight knit family, filled with anger, is left with many unanswered questions about their loved ones death.

“I’m pissed off at the state for allowing something like this to happen to my mom, they were supposed to have her back,” says Marianne’s son, Nick Johnson.

Johnson was known for her loving personality.

“She was a wonderful grandmother.”

“It’s really hard trying to explain to your children that their grandmother won’t be here anymore because of a senseless crime,” says Nick.

“It’s like a piece of your heart is gone,” says Michael.

Marianne’s son, Nick Johnson, told his mother several times to quit the job and find something more secure.

“Towards the end, no she was not happy with her job at all. She was being left alone when she wasn’t supposed to be left alone.”

While the family is left in the dark, Johnson’s body reveals many answers.

“It’s not in good shape,” says Nick.

The death of their loved one has them demanding answers on the prisons policies…and if correctional officers are ever allowed to be alone with inmates.

“My mom is 5-foot-2 and 90 pounds. At 55-years-old she’s a very small woman, definitely doesn’t need to be alone with some convicts.”

After being incarcerated himself, Nick says there’s nothing his mother could have done to even trigger an inmate to attack her.

This also marks the family’s  second death, Johnson lost her son a few months back.
