The family of the woman who died when a suspect crashed into her car while leading police on a high-speed chase through Central Lubbock, thanked the community for ongoing support after losing a loved one.
Ngoc “Nancy” Dung Tran, 54, died when a man attempting to evade police crashed his car into hers at 19th Street and Avenue Q in the middle of the day on March 17.
Jonathan Lovato, 33, was charged with murder Wednesday.
The victim’s son, Tony, issued a statement to EverythingLubbock.com Wednesday night.
“First and foremost we would like to thank the community of Lubbock and all the people that have reached out to us during our time of grieving,” he said.
“Yes, it does help to ease some of our pain with such a tragic event to our family,” he said after learning about Lovato’s murder charge.
“One thing about our mom is that she never stopped helping or loving anyone that knew her,” he added.
Tran worked as a cafeteria cook for more than 15 years at Covenant Women and Children’s Hospital.
“Even though she is not here physically, she is here with us spiritually and continues to watch over us everyday, walk with us everyday, and love us everyday,” her son said.
He said even though his mother was no longer alive, he and his family planned to “continue her legacy she has left us and the people she touched through us.”
“Thank you to Covenant, Resthaven, and the great people of Lubbock that continue to keep us in their hearts and support us. We love yall [sic] and god bless,” the statement said.
