Thursday night family and friends held tight to their rosary and candles as they remembered and honored Sonia Loera.

The 44-year-old mother from New Home was killed outside Club Pink Sunday morning when a pick-up truck slammed into a car she was standing near.

The mother of six often visited the club. Her daughters said she loved to dance and was friends with everyone at the Club.

Her daughters, Maribel Wall and Joarit Mireles said their mother loved life and did everything she could do enjoy it. She was a master gardener and an even better chef. She made breakfast burritos and sold them to workers on Slide road.

“I am just glad that a lot of what she prayed for she achieved in life,” Wall said. Even though it was short and she still had so much she wanted to achieve.”

Loera did not just love life, she worked hard at it. The single mom always providing for her kids.

“She did it all on her own,” Mireles said. “She bought the land that we lived on by herself, she built the house that we live in by herself, she did it all on her own.”

Her strength rubbing off on her daughters who now must be strong for their younger brothers: Raymond, 17, Glen,12,Cody,9 and George,6.

“We are going to be there as much as, they are all we have, they’re all we have,” Wall said. “Like my mother was it. Unfortunately our fathers weren’t in our lives and she was it, she was everything. She is what held us together and they took that away from us. Who ever did this just took our life away from us.”

Loera’s funeral is Saturday at 11 am at the baptist church in New Home.
