Family Searching for Answers After Horses Shot and Killed in Throckmorton County

Three horses found shot and dead on private property in Throckmorton County.

The land is on FM 1710 North of Woodson, leased by the O’Dell family who had three of their horses living there.

Early Sunday morning they found them all dead.

“Kind of in disbelief,” said Shawn O’Dell. “You hear of cows being shot and we’ve had some cows shot and other stuff but not usually a horse, especially a small horse like that. Or,  more than one, that’s not something you usually hear about a lot.”

They believe the horses were shot late Friday night.

One of the horses, the mare, had been in the family a long time and had recently given birth.”

“It looked just like her. That was going to be my dad’s horse,” O’Dell added.

Now, they are left wondering what happened and who could have done something like this.

“Somebody with not a lot of regard for life,” he stated. “Or,  somebody that’s not in the right state-of-mind probably.”

The Throckmorton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. The O’Dell family also says they are offering a reward for any information that can aid authorities in finding who did this.
