On Monday, February 22, 2016 around 4:30 p.m., officers from the New Mexico State Police responded to the scene of a single vehicle fatal crash which occurred at mile marker 145 on US 285.
The initial investigation revealed a Ford Explorer was southbound on US 285 near mile marker 145 when the vehicle veered off the roadway and onto the shoulder. The driver attempted to regain control and the vehicle rolled numerous times.
The driver and passenger, identified as Sharron Lewis (75) and Dean Richard Lewis (54), both of Cedar Crest, NM, each sustained fatal injuries from the crash and were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Alcohol and seatbelts are not believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
This crash is still under investigation.
