Federal agents conducted a major drug bust Thursday morning in Lubbock and Lubbock County.  Police Chief Greg Stevens said two federal search warrants were executed – one at Stratford Place Apartments 4901 4th Street and the other at 5747 154th Street (154th and Frankford Avenue).

Stevens said the target of the bust is a drug called Fentanyl which he said is “much bigger than methamphetamine.”

According to drugabuse.gov, “Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid analgesic that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent.”

Arrests were made but names were not yet released.  The location at 4th Street was described as a decontamination site, and a clean up team was brought in from Fort Worth.

At the 4th Street location, Lubbock Police, Lubbock Fire Rescue, and DEA agents from Washington, D.C. were present.

A spokesman for the DEA said one female and two males were arrested.  The DEA said Fentanyl is a problem in communities across the nation.

The DEA also said the Fentanyl was coming directly from China to Lubbock.

Stevens said a press conference would be scheduled for 2:00 p.m. to provide the public with more information.
