A 13-year-old girl made history for Littlefield Junior High on Thursday night, becoming on the second girl to ever take the field in a football game.

The 8th grader, Victorya Villanueve, played nose guard for the defense when the Wildcats faced Idalou in a scrimmage at Reddell Field.

Her father, Michael, said Victorya has always loved football and is used to wrestling with boys since she has two brothers.

“It is just fun for me,” Victorya said. “I feel like if I have anger built up I can just take it out on the guys. “

He and his wife, Krisiti, proudly sat in the stands, under the hot sun, to cheer on #67.
“She is proving herself,” Villanueva said. “And I told her it was something she was going to have to do. She couldn’t play  like a girl, she would have to play like a boy.”

Victorya took some tough hits on Thursday but she put up a fight of her own, while teammates cheered from the sideline.

Michael said his daughter was making history and paving the way for more female football players in the future.

“You cant tell your daughter she can do anything and then not give her the opportunity to go out and  do it,” Villanueva said.

“If you want it, then go after it,” Victorya advised.

He and Victorya expressing gratitude to Littlefield Independent School District for the giving Victorya the chance she deserved.

“They gave her the chance where I know a lot of other places would be closed to the experience,” Villanueva said.

If Victorya makes it onto the high school football team next year, she will be the first female in Littlefield High School history to play.
