Wilson Volunteer firefighers were called to the Fiber Brite Gin Monday afternoon for the report of a fire that destroyed more than 12,000 bales of cotton according to the gin owner.
Mike Tomlinson, owner, said it’s the third fire this year and the second to have caused major damage. A fire at the gin on February 7 raged out of control for more than 24 hours.
“It’s just the ultimate disaster to a disaster and I don’t know what to say,” Tomlinson said.
“It’s devastating,” Tomlinson said. “This has cost us three warehouses.”
There were no reports of injuries Monday.
“That’s the very best blessing [to have no injuries],” Tomlinson said.
Crews worked to contain the flames from spreading into surrounding structures.
“This has cost me three warehouses and thousands and thousands of bales,” Tomilnson said.
