The Lubbock City Council has named four finalists for the position of City Manager. The finalists are listed here in alphabetical order:

·     W. Jarrett Atkinson, Amarillo, Texas
·     Jack M. Harper, Waco, Texas
·     Ronald L. Olson, Corpus Christi, Texas
·     Orlando L. Sanchez, Las Vegas, Nevada

With the naming of finalists for this position, current City Manager James Loomis has announced his retirement effective November 18, 2016.

“Lubbock, Texas has been good to the Loomis family,” Loomis said. “I appreciate the trust and confidence shown to me personally in my three plus years as City Manager. But, what I’m most proud of are the people who I’ve had the pleasure to work with, and I wish everyone well.”

Mr. Loomis has been with the City since March of 2004, first serving as Director of Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport. He has served as City Manager since July of 2013.

“James came in at a tough time for the City and provided stability and strong leadership,” Mayor Dan Pope said. “I applaud his service to the City of Lubbock and wish him well in his retirement.”

Interviews with finalists for the City Manager position are scheduled for the week of October 24th. A sole finalist could be named before Mr. Loomis retires.

The City Council will discuss plans and could name an Interim City Manager at the October 27th City Council Meeting.
