The Collings Foundation landed four World War II planes in Lubbock on Monday as part of its Wings of Freedom Tour across the United States.

The purpose of the foundation is to organize and support living history events and artifacts so that Americans can learn about the history of its nation.

“So it’s really important that we get these kids out here so they can see this and see what it was like and realize these aircrafts are over 70 years old,” Jamie Mitchell, the Flight Coordinator stated. “And some of them did actually serve in combat. I think the best way to honor a veteran is to make sure there is another generation to hear their stories.”

Crews spend several hours a day making sure these historic planes stay in its original conditions. The B-24 Liberator is the last of the 18,000 built that is still flying.

“Considering it’s a combat vet, it’s like a time machine and knowing that men served on that same aircraft and you can sit in all the crew positions you are experiencing what they experienced,” Mitchell added.

Adults are $15 to view the planes and kids are $5. Visit the Collings Foundation for more information and prices for flights.
