Fire Causes $10,000 in Damages to Amarillo Triplex Monday

The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a fire at a triplex on the 100 block of Northeast 11th Avenue at 2:49 p.m. Monday.

Initial crews arrived on scene at 2:53 p.m. and observed light smoke coming from the northeast corner of the unit.

Crews quickly located the fire in the kitchen and had the fire under control by 3 p.m.

Officials say the fire was contained to the kitchen and did not extend into the other units of the triplex.

The building was occupied at the time of the fire, and the resident escaped unharmed.  He said he witnessed electrical wiring sparking, then catching a power cord and the floor on fire.

The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s office responded and ruled the cause of the electrical failure as undetermined.

Damage from the fire is estimated at $10,000.
