The man found dead in a house fire Monday afternoon, Andrew Vincent Stover, 44, was involved somehow in a child indecency investigation.
Lubbock Police said, “A complaint was filed. LPD detectives began an investigation to which [Stover] was a party.”
But Lubbock Police would not specify if “party” meant he was the one who filed the complaint or the one under investigation.
LPD said investigators made contact with Stover on Monday prior to 9:00 am in reference to the indecency case. The fire was reported four hours later.
The case actually was brought to the attention of Amarillo Police before LPD.
APD said there was an indecency case which was investigated. When it was found to have happened in Lubbock, it was handed over to LPD.
APD said the name of a suspect could not be released because charges were not yet filed.
The day before Stover’s death, he filed a police report for vandalism. His truck had been subjected to criminal mischief and the damage estimate was $2,000.
Stover’s body was recovered after a fire in the 8800 block of 9th Street in far Northwest Lubbock.
Lubbock Fire Rescue said Tuesday evening, “The cause of this fire is determined as incendiary (Arson). The residence was secure at the time of the fire with no signs of forced entry.”
An autopsy is still pending for the exact cause of death.
