Firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire in Central Lubbock late Friday evening.

The fire was reported in the 1900 block of 42nd Street around 11:40 p.m.

Fire crews reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the home when they arrived on the scene.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire and the home did not have any electricity or nature gas connected.

The Lubbock Fire Department said about one-quarter of the home suffered extensive fire damage and the entire structure suffered heavy smoke damage.

The Fire Marshal’s Office was also called to the scene to investigate.

The official cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, the investigator said there were several electric space heaters connected to a generator that were using extension cords too small for the electric load.
