The Lubbock County Commissioners approved the sale of fireworks for Memorial Day on Monday, and now firework vendors are rushing to stock their stands.
“We weren’t ready to start selling,” owner of Double F Fireworks Jeff Fenton said. “We’re having to order now last minute, but it’s a great thing.”
Fenton said as long as the weather stays friendly, the extra days of sales can bring in a significant amount of money not just for vendors, but also for local communities.
“There’s always that chance we may not get rain to sell on the 4th of July,” Fenton said. “So at least it gives people another opportunity to be able to pick up fireworks. If we do get the rain, that’s great, people are going to have back-to-back holidays to shoot off fireworks.”
The Wolfforth fire department is also gearing up for firework sales on Memorial Day in case there’s any grass fires.
