At 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a flash food warning for Lubbock until 2:00 pm.  When the warning expired, the NWS replaced it with an aerial flood warning until 4:00 pm.  An aerial flood warning means it can occur more gradually than a flash flood.

At first the NWS office in Lubbock said, “Up to three inches of Rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring.”

Later the NWS said there were isolated reports of 5-inch rainfall.

LPD said, “We are receiving multiple calls about stalled vehicles in high water areas. Do not drive through high water.”

Reports of low-level flooding were common.  Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to many reports of motorists stranded in vehicles and many requests for water rescues.

There were reports of cars and trucks getting flooded in parking lots at businesses along the South Loop.

LPD also said, “It’s not safe to be out in this weather.”
