Flooding in Lubbock County and Temporary Shelter Location

Due to Severe Thunderstorms and Significant Rainfall today [Thursday], and over the last few weeks, some Lubbock County Residents have experienced flooding to their residences.

Specific Areas affected by today rainfall include the City of Shallowater and immediate vicinity. There have been reports of around 75 homes, in the City of Shallowater, having received significant damage due to flooding. There have also been other areas of the county affected by this flood event.


The City of Shallowater in an effort to support it citizens will be coordinating with the South Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross to open a temporary shelter at the 12th Street Church of Christ, located at 1001 12th Street, Shallowater, Texas.

This temporary shelter will be open to any citizen in the Shallowater Area.

The shelter location should be operational by 7:00 pm this evening [Thursday].

Essential Services, such as Emergency Response by, Law Enforcement, Fire Service or Emergency Medical Service will continue.

We encourage citizens to remain at home and avoid all non-essential travel if possible.

If you must travel we advise you to use extreme caution as the roads may be covered by water.
