A Lubbock mother’s tradition is growing this year thanks in part to the help of a local flower shop which donated carnations for the ”Flowers From An Angel’ cause.
Three years ago mom, Paulina Gomez lost her daughter to suicide and the difficult time inspired her to gift flowers to other mom’s also dealing with the death of a child.
“When my daughter Quince passed away I thought I was the only one and then I started to meet more people who would come up to me and ask me: ‘How do you do it everyday?’ and I realized I wasn’t the only one who lost a child,” said Gomez.
Last year Gomez said she was excited to hand deliver 25 roses to local mother’s in need of a bright reminder on Mother’s day.
“I started giving flowers away because my daughter passed away 3 years ago and loved to give me flowers so I figured I’d give bouquet to grieving mothers in Lubbock because I know its a real hard time,” said Gomez.
This year The House of Flowers donated 65 flowers to Gomez ready to deliver for her cause. The local flower shop even surprising Gomez with a beautiful bouquet.
Gomez surprised a group of mother’s with flowers on Tuesday evening at The Compassionate Friends of Lubbock, a group for grieving parents to meet and discuss support. For more details about the organization visit: http://www.compassionatefriendslubbock.org/home.aspx
PILA, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness, is another local agency raising awareness within our community.
“I want them to know they are not alone,” Gomez said.
