The Uhlir family came home to the shock of their life on Sunday night when a tire flew off of the South Loop, damaging their house.

“In the 44 years I’ve been here, I’ve seen other houses hit and fences set on fire,” Homeowner Donna Uhlir said, “I’ve been fortunate…well…time caught up.”

They say it’s not unusual for accidents to happen nearby, but this one was a little different.

“She found this whole back room demolished, it looked like a bomb went off and we couldn’t figure out what was going on,” Son Shannonr Uhlir said.

Shannon called the cops, and that’s when they found the unlikely source of destruction.

“We found a truck tire, rim, brake and drum in the neighbors’ yard where it hit our house, bounced off hitting their house, and smashed into their air conditioning unit,” Uhlir said.

The tire shifted the structure of Donna’s sunroom by three-quarters of an inch, buckling the roof.

“My husband built this room and he’s not with us..and it’s probably going to have to be torn down because they can’t fix it,” Donna Uhlir said.

The Uhlirs say they’ll do what they can to maintain the memories.

“We’ll fix this, I still have the memories of it.”
