Scott Folkerts, 32, of Lubbock pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of manslaughter for the death of Drew Baize in April of 2013.
Witnesses then testified in court Monday and a judge will decide Folkert’s punishment in a few days.
Police at the time said Folkerts was driving more than 100 miles per hour at 82nd Street and Slide Road in his Honda Civic when he ran through an intersection and hit several vehicles.
Baize died at the scene. Folkerts was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries. Two other people were injured in the crash.
Folkerts was then taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center more than a week later. Then in early May of 2013 he was able to post bond to get out of jail.
The range of punishment is 2 to 20 years.
