A former Lubbock ISD coach was charged Thursday after an allegation that he had an improper relationship with a student.
LISD said Jordan Michael Nokes, 25, resigned his job. EverythingLubbock.com has learned through a combination of sources and public records that Nokes was a coach at Coronado High School. Regardless of age, Texas law forbids sexual relationships between teachers and their students.
Nokes had a previous conviction for a 2012 DWI. He completed probation for the DWI charge in April of 2014.
Nokes was not yet listed in jail records at the time of this story.
LISD sent the following statement Thursday evening:
Late on Thursday afternoon (Jan. 14), Lubbock ISD was made aware of possible inappropriate behavior by a staff member toward a student. The district administration took immediate and decisive action. Parents of the victim were notified and the district launched both an internal investigation and an investigation by law enforcement. The staff member was questioned on Thursday evening and was not allowed back on the campus. On Friday, the staff person resigned. With the thorough work of LISD Police, an arrest warrant was issued today [Thursday January 21] for Jordan Nokes for an inappropriate educator-student relationship. This investigation indicates this incident involved one student. The district notified the State Board of Educator Certification.
