LUBBOCK, TX– Former Lubbock Police officer and martial artist Kristi Wuensche teaches a self defense class exclusively for women.
“This is a six hour program that can give some confidence, empower these women to have the courage and confidence to walk through a parking lot,” said Wuensche.
Wuensche has a black bet in Krav Maga and Taekwondo and she said when she attended Texas Tech that’s when she wanted to learn more about defending herself.
“I wanted to walk across Tech’s campus by myself and feel safe that’s why I learned it,” said Wuensche.
“I get to play the villan,” joked Jay Fox, assistant to Wuensche. Fox said he sees the importance of self defense for women especially as he has two daughters.
“I want them to feel safe and I can’t always be there for them as a dad,” said Fox.
UMC hosting these classes for the last few years and have seen the demand for women wanting to feel safe..
“I want to be aware of my surroundings when I’m out but if something did arise I could do something about it if i needed to,” said student Pam Hicks.
The course teaches defensive techniques both physical and mental, so women can be prepared in any situation.
“Every person out there is worth defending,” said Wuensche. “You are worth defending yourself.”
