Former Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson requested a zoning change for 1917 Texas Avenue to allow for an indoor shooting range.
It would need approval by the Lubbock City Council and the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Robertson described it as a full service retail store with a gun range. If approved it would be a $2.5 million investment which creates the equivalent of eight full-time jobs.
“This would be more of a gun club,” Robertson said. However the public would also have access.
Robertson said indoor shooting ranges often have a problem with lead dust.
“But this will be designed to combat that situation,” he said. “It will be a very high-tech facility. You’ll never hear a shot from outside the facility.”
If approved, Robertson said it would be six to nine months to get the facility open.
The Lubbock City Council takes up the matter on Thursday, August 25, at a regularly scheduled meeting.
