The former Executive Director for the Snyder Chamber of Commerce has been formally sentenced to 60 years in prison, according to a release from the Ector County District Attorney’s Office.
Jay Dee Burns was sentenced by a jury to 15 years on three counts of sexual assault of a child and 10 years on five counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student, according to the release.
Burns was a teacher at Permian High School in Odessa when the investigation and subsequent charges came to light.
“The 10-year sentence on the four improper relationship between an educator and student and the stalking charge will run concurrent with one of the 15-year sexual assault (of a child) sentences,” the statement from the DA’s office read.
The other two sexual assault charges and the indecency with a child charge will be stacked, according to the release.
