Former Odessa Teacher, Chamber Executive with Snyder Ties Sentenced to 60 Years in Prison

The former Executive Director for the Snyder Chamber of Commerce has been formally sentenced to 60 years in prison, according to a release from the Ector County District Attorney’s Office.

Jay Dee Burns was sentenced by a jury to 15 years on three counts of sexual assault of a child and 10 years on five counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student, according to the release. 


Burns was a teacher at Permian High School in Odessa when the investigation and subsequent charges came to light.

“The 10-year sentence on the four improper relationship between an educator and student and the stalking charge will run concurrent with one of the 15-year sexual assault (of a child) sentences,” the statement from the DA’s office read.

The other two sexual assault charges and the indecency with a child charge will be stacked, according to the release.
